Remembering Herne Hill 1914 - 18
Welcome to the Herne Hill memorial website. This volunteer-led project aims to tell the story of all those from Herne Hill, South London, who served and died in the First World War.
The database, which contains over 550 records, was compiled and edited by the Herne Hill Society with help from the students of the Charter School, North Dulwich, and
other local people. Records are still being added.
This project is Heritage Lottery funded, thanks to money raised by National Lottery players.
Herne Hill Society
Founded in 1982, we are an “amenity society” - a charity of unpaid volunteers working to improve our part of London for the benefit of residents, visitors and local businesses. Amongst other things we research and publish local history.
The Charter School
The Charter School, in Red Post Hill, London SE24, is a joint partner in this project. Founded in 2000, it is one of the top 100 non-selective state-funded schools in England.
Heritage Lottery Fund
HLF distributes the heritage share of National Lottery funding, supporting projects across the UK. Since its foundation in 1994, thanks to National Lottery players, it has awarded £7.7 billion to more than 42,000 projects.
